Problem Statement

How might we empower individuals to better manage their personal health by addressing the lack of accessible, affordable, and value-aligned tools for tracking and understanding health data?

Proposed Solution

We designed Healthwise, a health management mobile app that allows users to manage and understand their personal health data, support informed decision-making, and promote long-term well-being.

Our initial research process followed three parts — conceptual, empirical, and technical. We grounded our thinking in values-driven principles for solutions.

To dive deeper into the problem space, we applied the following mixed-methods approach grounded in value-sensitive design to help us understand user needs.

Stakeholders

We began our conceptual investigation by conducting stakeholder analysis to make sure we considered several different groups of people that might be involved by our app.

Value Sources

Through interviews with over 10 participants, we identified several key values that users care most about: privacy and security, transparency, accuracy, convenience, appealing design, availability, usability, and a sense of user empowerment.
