🌸 A Bit About Me
Hi there! I’m Mengfei (you can call me Gloria), a senior at the University of Washington studying Human-Computer Interaction and Psychology. I’m passionate about designing solutions that drive real-world impact through projects in both academic and industry settings. Currently, I’m training to become a certified aromatherapist and volunteering as a crisis intervention counselor—bringing care into everything I do!
🍃 Beyond Work
When I’m not at my computer, you’ll find me enjoying sweets like strawberry shortcake smoothies or taro ball and grass jelly desserts, playing traditional Chinese music, exploring nature in the PNW, or practicing yangsheng—a lifestyle philosophy in Chinese medicine centered on holistic well-being. I also love spending time with my bunny, a mini lop named Mengmeng (yes—named after me! His name means “cute” in English), who always reminds me to slow down and savor the moment.
🎵 Give It a Listen
Here’s a clip of me playing the zhongruan at the 2021 East Meets West concert at Benaroya Hall in Bellevue, WA with the Seattle Chinese Orchestra. The zhongruan is a traditional Chinese string instrument with a warm and resonant tone, somewhat similar to both guitar and cello (which I also play!). It’s been a constant companion in my life for over 10 years and continues to shape how I connect with music and the arts. Don’t miss out on the unique voice of this timeless instrument—I hope you enjoy listening!
